Cricut Vintage Ornament

I made this beautiful ornament for my Christmas tree using my Cricut and Silent Night kit from SVGCUTS.  I think it turned out perfectly! 

Before I made this one, I practiced first and it is a good thing I did!  I made this one below first to try my hand at it and to see the size.  The size was much too big for my liking, so I made it smaller.

It's a nice ornament for a different tree, but definitely on the larger size.  When I went to make the ball, I forgot to change the dash lines to score, so they cut out instead.

It is good for making definite lines, but it weakens the ball.  It is also not so good if you are using a paper with a different core color as it shows through as seen!

This piece Mary made to give you a way to connect all of the pieces together and being able to press from the inside.  The difference between these and regular paper balls that are made with only pieces of paper is the ball to which you add everything to.  This gives added strength.

With the Cricut, you need to change the dash lines to score if you don't want cuts plus you need to ATTACH them together or else the score lines will try to go on a separate mat.  I am not sure why the files come in from SVGCUTS that way, but they do.
(If you have a Silhouette Designer Edition or Sure-Cuts-A-Lot, you don't need to do this.  The program keeps them together for you.)

I chose pink papers as that is the color of my tree ornaments this year.  The rose, pine needles and leaves were made from the Cricut.

I also added Nuvo Mousse to the light green leaves, and a center line with my Sakura Silver Star Gelly Roll pen.  To the rose, I added chunky glitter to add more dimension and to give it a more vintage look.  I added lace to the seams as I felt they needed to be covered.  That is actually how I ended up with a vintage ornament.  I'm glad I did though!  I scrunched the ribbon and added Prima Bloom Spray to add a bit of sheen.  The pearl loops and feathers were purchased from my local dollar store.  The charm was ordered online from ebay and the glass charm is from Michaels.

Chunky Charm and Gift Box

I made this chunky charm for my sister.  She has fallen in love with these things, but has ZERO desire to do them herself.   I miss the swaps on the Cricut site!  I had so much fun!

 I made the box using my Silhouette and the image from their store.  I suggest you go to the 3under3andmore blog to get the instructions.  I thought I had it all together and then saw it didn't fit.  Oops!  Should always check instructions. 

I like the idea of buying individual images, but I don't like the way the Silhouette studio has clumped them all onto one mat.  It makes it harder to work with, as you don't always know what is what.  I'm  fairly new to all of this Silhouette stuff so it will take some time.  It would be awesome if we could have layers.   I suppose it might be more difficult to do it that way, but I truly have no idea.  I love all of the 3d stuff that they have.  When they have sales, you can sometimes get the images for 50c!  I digress again. 

 I love the little guy on the right hand side that I made with beads.  My daughter said, "He rocks!"  Ha!  The charm is super chunky and fills most of my hand.  It does fit in the box below that I made to hold it.

One of my many 50 cent purchases!  The lid of the chimney comes off to reveal the charm.  I think next time I make this, I'm going to get some "smoke" for the chimney.  I think that would be a nice added touch.

I love to make charms!  I made these out of Cricut cuts from Flower Shoppe and Cricut Basics.

The first one is cut from a piece of plastic.  The second one is the same leaf cut multiple times, glued together, edges inked then glaze applied over top.  It is very important for this type of charm that you press the layers down well.  I used my brayer.  You can use spray laquer to coat these.  The more layers you use, the stronger it becomes.  It is better to use several light layers rather than one thick one so that it doesn't clump.  The third and fourth ones are a pieces of shrink plastic.  The sparkly heart was shrank, then a thin layer of glaze added and glitter over that.  The fourth one is dipped into my melting pot full of embossing powder.  This makes it really thick and melts the shrink plastic very quickly!  The 5th one is multiple layers of paper.  You must remember to flip the last one.  I found with this particular leaf, it is better to just flip a piece of paper and not the image.  For some reason when it flips, it cuts smaller!  The last one is a piece of shrink plastic that I colored with a sharpe and then melted.  Make sure you put your holes into the shrink plastic BEFORE you melt it.  Otherwise, it's too late.  Attempting to make holes will likely break them.  (Ask me how I know!)

I think they turned out very well. I may try to retake the photos in the day light to help you see the charms better.  IRL they look really nice and will be making their way onto some projects!  I plan on continuing to find new way to make charms with my Cricut!
